KINGSTON — Local residents will get a chance to talk with Mike Huckabee, Republican presidential candidate, when he comes to town this Sunday. The former Arkansas governor will be at The Kingston 1686 House, 127 Main St., at 11 a.m. Huckabee's press secretary, Alice Stewart, said he plans to reinforce his message of conservative leadership. "He's anxious to spread his ideas about lifting this country up and talking about the issues people talk about around the kitchen table," said Stewart. "He will talk to them about education, health care and taxes. He will also talk about what they want to talk about." Stewart said Huckabee will continue to visit with people in New Hampshire and is energized by his strong showing in the Iowa straw poll, where he came in second among the Republican candidates who participated. "We are confident of our support in New Hampshire and hope with the strong leadership we have there, and the second-place finish, that more people will join the grass-roots campaign we have going there." Stewart said Huckabee likes grass-roots campaigning. "He likes being able to sit down and visit with people," she said. "He wants people to ask questions and to learn about their issues. He respects their interests." One thing Stewart said campaign workers are noticing is that, in New Hampshire, there are always new people coming to the different venues. "And when he goes to speak, the crowds are getting bigger and interest is growing," said Stewart. |
